Kambove, located in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a historic mining center within the heart of the Central African Copperbelt, with large-scale industrial and artisanal mining operations developing extensively throughout the 20th century under colonial and modern administrations. Geologically, the area sits within the Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup, where complex sedimentary sequences and shale-hosted ore bodies underwent deep hydrothermal mineralization and intensive supergene alteration. This unique geological environment created exceptionally rich deposits of copper and cobalt minerals, producing world-class specimens of malachite, heterogenite, and associated secondary species that have made Kambove a legendary locality among global mineral collectors.
