specimen number:
1791321

location:
Allouez #3 Mine, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA

description:
Light green botryoidal crystallized redundant across the top of matrix with deep green epidote crystals. In good condition.

The Allouez Number 3 Mine, also known as the Allouez Douglass Shaft in Keweenaw County, Michigan, was opened in 1942 by the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company and operated until it permanently closed in 1966. Geologically, the site is situated within the Keweenaw Peninsula's Jacobsville and volcanic trap rock terrain, where operations targeted native copper deposits hosted within the Houghton Conglomerate and an unnamed amygdaloid lode formed during the Precambrian Keweenawan flood basalt episodes.
