Wonderful old German classic consisting of a cluster of bright lustrous pyrargyrite crystals measuring to almost 1.5 cm in size. This is in terrific condition. Excellent for the species.

The Schlema mining district, located in the western Erzgebirge of Saxony, Germany, has a rich history spanning over five centuries, beginning with silver mining in the 15th century and later transitioning to uranium extraction after World War II under the Soviet-run Wismut SDAG. Geologically, the area is situated within the Variscan Erzgebirge anticlinorium, where hydrothermal vein systems are hosted in metamorphic rocks near the contact of late Paleozoic granitic intrusions. The complex ore veins contain an association of uranium oxides, cobalt, nickel, bismuth, silver, and various secondary minerals, making Schlema one of the most prolific and mineralogically diverse mining camps in Central Europe.
