A fine grouping of lustrous golden cubic pyrite crystals with very little attached matrix. In great condition and quite choice for this old Pennsylvania locality. The specimen comes with a previous antique label from Schortmann's Minerals as shown at the end of the video.

The French Creek mines in Chester County, Pennsylvania were among the earliest iron mining operations in the United States. Mining began in the early 18th century to extract magnetite and other iron ores from deposits in Precambrian and Paleozoic rocks. The ore supplied nearby furnaces that produced iron for tools, weapons, and other products during the colonial period. The mines operated for many years and played an important role in the early iron industry of Pennsylvania.
