The Brushy Creek mine is a major underground base-metal operation located near Greeley in Reynolds County, Missouri, situated within the world-class Viburnum Trend of the New Lead Belt. Geologically, it is a classic Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) deposit hosted within the Upper Cambrian Bonneterre Dolomite formation, where mineralizing hydrothermal fluids deposited massive stratabound sulfides along ancient microbial reef structures and collapse breccias. The primary ore mineralogy is dominated by galena, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite. Development of the site began in 1969 under the St. Joe Minerals Corporation, with the dual-shaft underground operation and accompanying flotation mill officially entering commercial production in 1973. Control of the mine transitioned through various corporate restructurings, eventually moving under the management of the Doe Run Company, which continues active, large-scale mining and milling operations at the Brushy Creek complex today.
