Crystals of siderite are scattered throughout. Neat combination piece for this well-known locality. In good condition.

The Trepca mining complex, located in the Mitrovica district of northern Kosovo, is one of the largest lead-zinc and silver deposits in Europe. Geologically, it is a world-class skarn and hydrothermal replacement deposit situated within the Vardar Zone of the Balkan Peninsula. The ore bodies formed during the Tertiary period when metal-rich fluids interacted with Paleozoic marbles and volcanic rocks, resulting in massive sulfide mineralization. This unique environment has produced spectacular mineral specimens, including lustrous galena, sphalerite, and translucent pink rhodochrosite crystals, often associated with pyrrhotite and quartz. Historically, mining at Trepca dates back to at least the Roman era and saw significant expansion during the medieval Serbian Kingdom. Modern industrial exploitation began in 1927 under the British-owned Trepca Mines Limited and reached its peak during the Yugoslav era, when it became a cornerstone of the regional economy. Although production was severely disrupted by the conflicts of the 1990s, portions of the Stari Trg mine continue to operate today, maintaining Trepca's legacy as both an industrial powerhouse and a legendary source of mineralogical treasures.
