Bright lustrous golden crystals of pyrite measuring to almost 2.0 cm in size covering one side of matrix. Minor calcite present. Minimal micro-damage present, still in good condition.

The Huanzala Mine, located in the Huallanca district of Peru, is a major polymetallic deposit in the central Andes that has produced lead, zinc, and silver from hydrothermal vein and replacement mineralization hosted in limestone. Modern mining operations began in 1968 under Japanese investment and development, with extensive underground workings following high grade ore bodies formed by mineralizing fluids moving through favorable structural zones. The geology is characterized by complex interaction between intrusive activity and carbonate host rocks, resulting in well developed sulfide mineralization. The mine has been an important contributor to Perus mining industry and is also well known among collectors for its mineral specimens. Unlike many historic mines, Huanzala has not fully closed and has continued to operate into recent years, although production levels and activity have varied over time.
