Pyrite with Chalcocite, Quartz, Smithsonite
specimen number:
1114149
location:
Chino mine, Grant Co., New Mexico, USA
description:
Interesting specimen for this locality showing crystals of pyrite to 1.0 cm in size on a crystallized quartz matrix. These are coated with gray chalcocite. Small scalenohedral crystals of smithsonite are scattered throughout. Slight micro-chipping present. I have not seen many of these on matrix, always the pyrite crystals as loose single crystals were groupings. The smithsonite association is very interesting.
Size: 11.0 x 7.0 x 2.5 cm (cabinet)
