Les Farges Mine, Ussel, Correze, France

description:
Beautiful thumbnail specimen from this classic French locality. The crystals are lustrous with great color, in good condition.

The Les Farges Mines in Correze, France, are a historic lead mining locality that was worked mainly during the 20th century. The deposit consists of lead rich mineralization in sedimentary rocks, with galena as the primary ore mineral. The mines are especially famous among mineral collectors for pyromorphite, which occurs as bright green hexagonal crystals formed in the oxidized zones of the deposit. Specimens from Les Farges are considered some of the finest pyromorphite examples in the world and are highly valued for their color and crystal form.
