Pyromorphite ((ATES-0003)
specimen number:
9273242
location:
Daoping Mine, Guangxi, China
description: Beautiful lustrous green crystals of pyromorphite averaging 0.5 cm in size across the front of matrix. From the early 2000's, in super condition. The Daoping Mine, located near Gongcheng in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, is a prominent base metal deposit with a modern history driven by both commercial ore extraction and subsequent specimen mining. Geologically, the deposit is hosted in Paleozoic limestones and dolostones that have undergone intense fracturing and karstification, creating favorable pathways for hydrothermal fluids. Oxidation processes within these carbonate-hosted lead and zinc orebodies led to the formation of rich secondary mineral assemblages. The mine has achieved global fame among mineral collectors for producing world-class, vibrant green crystals of pyromorphite, alongside occasional specimens of cerussite.
