Pyrrhotite

specimen number:
9892023

location:
Nikolaevskiy Mine, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia

description:
A cluster of platy pseudo-hexagonal pyrrhotite crystals without matrix. Minimal micro-damage present, this still in good condition. This is crystallized completely all around.

The Nikolaevskiy Mine, located in the Dalnegorsk ore district of Primorskiy Kray, Russia, opened in 1982 and remains an active underground operation focused on polymetallic extraction. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within deformed Triassic-Jurassic limestone and skarn systems associated with Late Cretaceous volcanism. Hydrothermal activity formed extensive vugs and cavities within the carbonate rocks, creating ideal spaces for the crystallization of world-class sulfide and gangue mineral assemblages, including spectacular galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, quartz, and fluorite.
