location:
Rian's Quarry, Dickinson Co., Michigan, USA
description: Rian's Quarry, located in Dickinson County, Michigan, is a smaller but notable locality within the state's Upper Peninsula, situated near the town of Felch. Geologically, the quarry was developed within the Felch Formation, a Paleoproterozoic metamorphic unit that contains layers of dolomite and marble. The site is known for providing a variety of minerals formed during the regional metamorphism of these carbonate rocks, often occurring in contact with iron-rich formations. Historically, the quarry was primarily an industrial operation for the production of crushed stone and aggregate.
Colorless lustrous crystals of quartz to 0.4 cm in size across the top of matrix. In good condition. Neat locality example for the species collected in 1997.
