The Jalgaon district, situated within the northern region of Maharashtra, India, is a globally renowned mineral locality celebrated for producing highly lustrous specimens of fluorapophyllite-K, stilbite, chalcedony, and other zeolites. Geologically, the area is positioned entirely within the thick, sub-horizontal basaltic lava flows of the Cretaceous-Paleogene age Deccan Traps volcanic province. As these massive flood basalts cooled, trapped volcanic gases formed numerous localized vesicles and open cavities where late-stage, low-temperature hydrothermal fluids circulated, slowly depositing an array of well-crystallized secondary silicate and zeolite minerals, with the fluorapophyllite-K from this locality being almost always colorless and gemmy. Commercial quarrying and open-pit mining in the region began expanding rapidly in the mid-to-late twentieth century, driven heavily by local infrastructure growth and the large-scale extraction of basalt for industrial construction aggregate and road metal. These intensive quarrying operations have remained highly active continuously for decades, with quarry workers systematically recovering exceptional, world-class collector specimens from exposed pockets well into the 2020s.
