description: The area of Boekenhouthoek in the Mkobola district of Mpumalanga, South Africa, is internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing unique quartz varieties, often known as spirit quartz or cactus quartz. Geologically, the region features ancient metamorphic and granitic basement rocks influenced by regional hydrothermal activity that facilitated the growth of specialized quartz crystals. Silica-rich fluids circulating through local cavities and fractures deposited these distinctive specimens, which are characterized by a central master crystal covered by numerous smaller, parallel-growing terminated crystal points. Artisanal and local mining efforts have recovered these distinctive amethyst and milky quartz formations, which frequently display pale lavender hues alongside natural surface iron oxide coatings.
Gorgeous mostly gemmy and lustrous multi-generation purple crystals of quartz to 3.0 cm in height coming off of matrix. In terrific condition all around. Great color and luster, this is quite attractive.
