During this replacement process, the barite dissolves entirely and is systematically filled in or coated by microcrystalline quartz or chalcedony. The resulting specimen maintains the external geometry of the parent barite crystal, creating a durable quartz replica that is highly valued by mineral collectors for its unique preservation of an earlier mineral phase.
Bladed crystals of what were once barite, these now replaced by sparkling micro crystalline quartz, across the top of matrix. In good condition.
