Beautiful gemmy purple crystals of quartz, this is the variety often called amethyst, measuring to 1.0 cm in size across the front of matrix. This is in excellent condition. Quite attractive. The color is wonderful on this piece.

The Khadakwani quarrying locality, situated within the Khargone District of southwestern Madhya Pradesh, India, represents a notable regional extraction site widely recognized among mineral collectors for producing highly aesthetic, distinct specimens of vibrant violet amethyst crystals. Geologically, the deposit is deeply embedded within the western extensions of the massive Cretaceous-to-Eocene age Deccan Traps large igneous province, which is dominated by thick successions of tholeiitic basalt flows. Localized vesicular and amygdaloidal cavities within these structural basalt layers acted as fluid pathways for silica-rich hydrothermal solutions, creating subterranean cooling pockets where layers of banded chalcedony and well-crystallized amethyst geodes could precipitate over geologic time. Historically, regular quarrying at Khadakwani initiated during the late twentieth century primarily as an opportunistic byproduct of local basalt aggregate mining for regional road construction and infrastructure development. Selective manual specimen extraction by specialized mineral collectors and localized cooperatives expanded significantly during the 2010s and early 2020s as international demand grew for the unique color variations and crystal habits, and seasonal small-scale surface trenching and pocket recovery remain selectively active through 2026.
