The Los Remedios Mine, located within the historic Taxco mining district in Guerrero, Mexico, features polymetallic hydrothermal vein deposits hosted primarily in Mesozoic sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, including the Taxco Schist and Morelos Limestone. Epithermal mineralizing fluids circulating through regional fault networks deposited complex sulfides, including galena and sphalerite, alongside calcite, dolomite, and quartz. Historically, while the Taxco region was mined for silver and gold starting in the pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial eras, twentieth-century operations at Los Remedios focused on base metals like lead and zinc, alongside silver extraction. Geologically and historically, the mine is also recognized by mineral collectors for producing well-crystallized secondary specimens, notably scalenohedral calcite, pink rhodochrosite pseudomorphs after calcite, and deep purple amethyst.
