location:
Block 18 Level 734, Gyudyurska mine, Erma Reka, Zlatograd, Smolyan, Bulgaria
description: The Gyudyurska Mine, located near the village of Erma Reka in the Zlatograd municipality of Smolyan Province, Bulgaria, is situated within the southern part of the Madan Ore Field in the Rhodope Mountains. The regional geology is characterized by a complex metamorphic and igneous basement where hydrothermal vein and metasomatic ore bodies formed through mineralizing fluids circulating within fault zones and crystalline host rocks. Modern industrial mining operations developed heavily in this region during the twentieth century to extract lead and zinc. Alongside large-scale commercial ore production, the underground workings have become internationally noted among mineral collectors for yielding fine specimens of metallic and sulfosalt minerals, including galena, sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and associated quartz and carbonates.
Green gemmy crystals of quartz measuring to 2.2 cm in length coming off of a lustrous galena crystal matrix. This is in good condition.
