Pink crystal groupings of rhodochrosite measuring to 1.5 cm in diameter across the top of a crystallized quartz matrix. This is in good condition and quite choice for the species and locality.

The Batantsi Mine is part of the Varba-Batantsi concession within the famous Madan ore field in the Smolyan Province of the Central Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria. Historically, the broader Madan region boasts an extensive mining heritage dating back to ancient times, with lead and zinc extraction beginning in the 4th to 5th centuries BC under the Thracians, followed by centuries of medieval, Ottoman, and modern industrial exploitation. Geologically, the deposit is situated within a complex metamorphic core complex shaped by Tertiary tectonic and magmatic events. It features characteristic hydrothermal vein systems and carbonate replacement skarn bodies hosted within gneisses, amphibolites, and marbles. The mineralogy is exceptionally diverse, primarily composed of economic sulfide minerals such as galena and sphalerite accompanied by pyrite and chalcopyrite, alongside various carbonate gangue minerals, making the area world-renowned for its pristine crystal specimens.
