Very pretty bladed pink crystals of rhodochrosite across the top of a crystallized quartz matrix with botryoidal crystallized calcite. This combination piece is very attractive. Said to have been collected in 1970.

Cavnic, located in Maramures County in northwestern Romania, has a rich mining history spanning several centuries, with early extraction activities dating back centuries. Modern industrial-scale operations at the Cavnic mine officially opened in 1958, focusing heavily on the extraction of polymetallic ores. Geologically, the area is situated within the volcanic and tectonic belt of the Gutai Mountains, featuring complex hydrothermal vein systems hosted in Neogene volcanic rocks. These veins are renowned for producing vast reserves of lead, zinc, copper, gold, and silver, alongside world-class crystallized mineral specimens including quartz, carbonates, and sulfides.
