description: Ruizite is a rare sorosilicate mineral first discovered at the Christmas Mine in Gila County, Arizona, and formally described in 1977. It was named in honor of its discoverer, Joe Ana Ruiz. Geologically, ruizite typically forms in oxidized environments through retrograde metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration during the cooling of calc-silicate skarn assemblages. It occurs primarily within fracture surfaces and small vugs in altered limestone, frequently associated with other secondary minerals such as inesite, apophyllite, and calcite.
