Scheelite with Quartz
specimen number:
2322013
location:
Pingwu mine, Huya, Pingwu Co., Mianyang, Sichuan, China
description: The Pingwu Mine, situated near Huya township on Mount Xuebaoding in Sichuan, China, is a renowned high-altitude mining and specimen-collecting locality. Geologically, the deposit consists of complex quartz-mica and quartz-feldspar-mica vein systems associated with granitic intrusions that cut through regional metamorphic rocks. These hydrothermal veins formed through multi-stage fluid activity, concentrating tungsten, tin, and beryllium. While small-scale commercial operations have targeted the area for economic metals, the site is internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing world-class specimens, most notably sharp, gemmy orange scheelite pseudo-octahedrons, pristine beryl crystals including aquamarine and goshenite, and lustrous black cassiterite, typically perched on pale mica and quartz matrices.
Lustrous orange slightly translucent pseudo-octahedral crystals of scheelite measuring to 1.2 cm in size on matrix with crystallized quartz. This is in good condition.
