description: The Erongo Mountains in west-central Namibia form an eroded volcano-plutonic complex and caldera structure that evolved approximately 130 to 135 million years ago during the rifting and breakup of Gondwana. Geologically, the complex consists of basaltic lavas, ignimbrites, and granitic intrusions, featuring specialized miarolitic cavities and pegmatites enriched in volatile elements. While early commercial prospecting and small-scale tin, tungsten, and base metal mining began during the German colonial period in the early 20th century (with operations like Krantzberg working intermittently until closing in 1979), the region is internationally renowned for continuous modern specimen mining. Rather than operating as a single unified industrial site, the area remains an active district of localized small-scale and artisanal claims targeting world-class aquamarine, tourmaline, and associated pocket minerals.
Lustrous black crystals of schorl measuring to 1.5 cm in size on a matrix of blocky white microcline crystals. This is in good condition. In great condition all around.
