The Guchab mining area is the most easterly copper deposit in the Otavi valley. The Guchab mine was active between 1908 and 1911. The mining district is known for its super dioptase specimens mined prior to World War 1. Smithsonite from here is extremely uncommon. The example shown here is outstanding with pearly translucent beautiful green crystals to 1 cm in size covering a 9.0 x 6.0 x 3.0 cm matrix. In excellent condition with no damage or chipping; not just beautiful but quite historical and rare. We have had several Namibia experts check the piece and confirm that the locality is correct.
