A very choice botryoidal crystallized smithsonite from an unusual locality. This is in excellent condition. Coll Collected on October 15, 1977 by Robert Bartsch and comes with his label. the specimen was on display at the 2026 Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.

The Black Rock Mine in Stevens County, Washington was a small scale mining operation developed in a region known for base metal and precious metal mineralization in northeastern Washington. Mining in the area focused on hydrothermal veins hosted in metamorphic and igneous rocks that contained minerals such as copper and other sulfides. Like many mines in Stevens County, the workings were modest and were operated intermittently during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as prospectors explored the districts mineral potential. Today the locality is inactive but remains part of the historic mining heritage of northeastern Washington.
