The Wushan Mine, situated near Tongbei in the Yunxiao County of Fujian Province, China, is world-renowned among mineral collectors for producing exceptional, gem-quality spessartine garnet specimens. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within complex granitic pegmatites and miarolitic cavities associated with late-stage Mesozoic granitic intrusions. The mineral crystallizes alongside smoky quartz, microcline feldspar, and albite, forming brilliant orange to deep red garnet clusters. While small-scale commercial and artisanal extraction of fine mineral specimens ramped up significantly around the late 1990s and early 2000s, intensive mining operations have largely wound down or faced strict local closures due to environmental protections and the exhaustion of easily accessible pocket zones.
