The Little Three Mine in San Diego County, California, is a historic pegmatite mine located near the town of Ramona. Discovered in the early 1900s, the mine became well known for producing gem quality minerals from complex granitic pegmatites. In addition to tourmaline and other pegmatite minerals, the mine produced fine crystals of spessartine garnet. These garnets commonly occur as bright orange to reddish brown crystals associated with quartz, feldspar, and tourmaline. Specimens from the Little Three Mine are valued by collectors for their color, crystal form, and association with other gem minerals.
