The Ticlio Mine, located in the Morococha district of the Yauli province in Junin, Peru, is situated high in the central Peruvian Andes at an extreme altitude. Historically, mining in the district dates back to the colonial era, with intensive industrial-scale underground extraction developing through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to exploit rich polymetallic veins. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within deformed Mesozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks that have been intruded by Tertiary granodiorite stocks. The hydrothermal systems generated complex vein networks containing copper, lead, zinc, and silver ores, which have yielded fine specimens of minerals such as sphalerite, enargite, tetrahedrite, pyrite, and quartz for mineral collectors.
