The Hodrusa Hamre mining district, located near Zarnovica in the Banska Bystrica region of Slovakia, is part of a historically important mining area in the central Carpathian Mountains with activity dating back to the medieval period. The geology of the district is characterized by hydrothermal vein deposits hosted in volcanic and metamorphic rocks, where mineralizing fluids introduced gold, silver, and base metals into fractures and fault zones. Extensive underground workings were developed over several centuries to follow these mineralized veins, and the region became a significant source of precious and base metals in Europe. Mining continued into modern times with updated methods, and the area remains notable both for its long mining history and for the diverse mineralization associated with these complex hydrothermal systems.
