The White Caps Mine, located in the Manhattan District of Nye County, Nevada, is a historically significant operation known for its complex gold-antimony mineralization. Geologically, the deposit is a replacement-style ore body where hydrothermal fluids rich in gold, arsenic, and antimony reacted with Cambrian-aged limestone and shale. This environment produced world-class specimens of stibnite, which occur as brilliant, metallic-gray prismatic crystals that are often highly lustrous and can reach several inches in length. Historically, the mine began significant operations around 1915 and became one of the primary gold producers in the district during the 1920s, utilizing a specialized roasting plant to process its refractory ores. While mining activity fluctuated due to economic shifts and technical challenges with ore processing, the site saw various periods of reactivation through the mid-20th century.
