The Wuning Mine, located in the Wuning County of Jiangxi Province, China, is a world-famous antimony deposit celebrated for its extraordinary stibnite specimens. Geologically, the mine is situated within a hydrothermal vein system hosted in the faulted and fractured zones of Proterozoic metamorphic rocks. Mineralization occurred when low-temperature hydrothermal fluids precipitated stibnite and quartz in large, open vugs, allowing for the growth of exceptionally long, sharp, and highly lustrous metallic crystals. Historically, the mine began significant operations in the latter half of the 20th century to supply the global demand for antimony. While it remains a critical industrial source of this metalloid, it gained immense international fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s for producing what are considered some of the finest stibnite crystal groups ever discovered. These specimens, often characterized by their dramatic size and elegant sword-like habits, have set the modern standard for the species in the mineralogical community.
