location:
Baia Sprie, Maramures Co., Romania
description: Baia Sprie, historically known as Felsobanya, is a historic mining town located in Maramures County, Romania, with a rich extraction history dating back to the Middle Ages for gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc. Geologically, the area is situated within the Neogene volcanic arc of the Eastern Carpathians, where complex hydrothermal activity formed epithermal vein systems hosted in volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Mineralogically, the district is world-famous among collectors for producing an extraordinary variety of rare and aesthetically stunning sulfosalts, sulfides, and associated gangue minerals, often featuring exceptional crystal specimens.
An excellent compact spray of metallic acicular double terminated stibnite crystals. Small platy crystals of colorless barite are scattered throughout. For what this is, in excellent condition. This is complete all around with no points of attachment.
Size: 12.5 x 10.0 x 9.5 cm (cabinet)
