Mineralogically, Oberdorf is internationally famous among collectors for producing some of the finest crystal specimens of strontianite, a strontium carbonate mineral, typically occurring as lustrous, translucent, pseudo-hexagonal prisms or needles resting on a contrasting carbonate matrix.
