Small golden lustrous micro crystals of sylvanite throughout this matrix with purple crystalline fluorite. In good condition. Mining at Cripple Creek, Colorado began in the early 1890s after the discovery of rich gold deposits in volcanic rocks within the Cripple Creek mining district. The area quickly developed into one of the most productive gold camps in the United States, with numerous underground mines exploiting gold telluride ores hosted in breccia zones and veins. Major mines such as the Portland and Independence produced large quantities of gold and supported rapid growth of nearby towns. Mining continued through much of the 20th century, and modern open pit operations in the district still recover gold today, making Cripple Creek one of the most enduring gold producing regions in Colorado.
