A 2.7 x 1.8 x 0.7 cm tasmanite specimen. According to mindat: Tasmanite is an amber-coloured organic matter derived from burial of the prasinophyte alga Tasmanites punctatus. It is commonly associated with high-latitude, nutrient-rich, marginal marine settings find in Tasmania, especially in the Permian mudstones of northern Tasmania. It was mined at Latrobe and other areas for the oil content. Shipping weight: 0.04 pounds. Ex Wolfgang E Henkel collection.
