Lustrous micro crystals of tennantite very rich throughout this matrix. In good condition, choice old Cornish classic that comes with an antique label dating this piece to the 19th century. Originally acquired through the famous German dealership Dr. F. Krantz. Herodsfoot Mine (sometimes listed with North Herodsfoot) in southeast Cornwall was worked intermittently from the early 1700s, again in 1831, and then more continuously from about 1845 to 1884 as a lead and silver producing mine, with later activity in the 1880s sometimes described separately as "North Herodsfoot." It became especially famous among collectors for exceptional bournonite and tetrahedrite specimens, including the classic "cogwheel" bournonite found mainly in the mid 1800s.
