A near colorless to light Sherry colored crystal of gemmy topaz 1.2 cm in size on a rhyolite matrix. In great condition. The specimen comes with an antique label and dates to the very early 20th century.

Topaz from the Thomas Range in Juab County, Utah occurs in cavities within rhyolite formed by volcanic activity. Gas rich pockets in the cooling lava allowed well formed crystals of topaz to grow along with minerals such as bixbyite and red beryl. The area has been a popular collecting locality for many years because crystals can be found weathered from the soft rhyolite. Thomas Range topaz is known for its clear to light sherry colored crystals and sharp crystal form.
