Topaz from the Adun Cholon Range in Russia is associated with granitic pegmatites and greisen deposits formed during late stage crystallization of intrusive bodies in this remote region of eastern Siberia. The geology consists of highly evolved granites that released fluorine rich fluids, creating favorable conditions for the formation of topaz and other rare minerals within veins and cavities. Mining and collecting in the area has been limited due to its isolated location, but specimens have been known since the 19th century and have appeared in collections as classic Russian material. The topaz typically occurs as well formed prismatic crystals, often colorless to pale blue or light brown, with good transparency and sharp crystal faces. These crystals formed under high temperature conditions followed by slow cooling, allowing for well developed growth in open spaces within the host rock.
