Topaz from the Thomas Mountains in Juab County, Utah, occurs in cavities within rhyolite formed by volcanic activity. The area, especially around Topaz Mountain, is well known for producing well crystallized topaz associated with rhyolitic tuff and volcanic rocks. Crystals are typically colorless to pale sherry brown and often occur as well formed prismatic crystals in gas cavities. The locality has long been popular with collectors due to the abundance of accessible material and the quality of the crystals found there.
