specimen number:
2133062

location:
St. Anne's Mine, Mwami, Zimbabwe

description:
A loose cluster of large blocky microcline crystals, this hosting prismatic crystals of deep blue elbaite and light blue crystallized topaz. A floater that is complete all around, in great condition.

St Annes Mine is a pegmatite mineral locality near Mwami in the Karoi District of Mashonaland West Province, Zimbabwe. The deposit occurs in a fluorine enriched granitic pegmatite intruded into Precambrian schists and includes a hydrothermally altered zone about 2 m wide and 250 m long. The mine became well known to mineral collectors for producing high quality crystals of topaz, especially natural blue topaz, along with beryl, tourmaline, and quartz. It was first worked in the 1950s as a beryllium deposit and later gained international attention for its gem and mineral specimens.
