Geologically, the area is characterized by ancient Grenville marbles, gneisses, and skarn zones that underwent intense regional metamorphism and high-temperature fluid activity over a billion years ago, creating ideal environments for rare-element and silicate crystallization. Mineralogically, Harcourt is well known among collectors for producing notable specimens of amphibole group minerals, particularly attractive green crystals of chrome tremolite formed within the altered carbonate rocks.
