The Kuran Wa Munjan District in Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan, is home to the legendary Sar-e-Sang lapis lazuli mining complex, which boasts an active extraction history spanning over 6,000 years since the early Bronze Age and remains operational today on a seasonal basis.
