The San Carlos Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, is a lead mining locality that has been worked on a small scale for lead and associated metals from hydrothermal vein deposits in carbonate rocks. Mining activity in the area developed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with underground workings following mineralized zones. In the oxidized portions of the deposit, a variety of secondary minerals formed. Vanadinite occurs at the San Carlos Mine as bright red to orange hexagonal crystals, often forming attractive groups.
