Vuonnemite is a rare sodium titanium niobium phosphate mineral that occurs in alkaline igneous complexes rich in unusual elements. It was first described from the Vuonnemiok River area in the Kola Peninsula of Russia, from which it takes its name. The mineral typically forms small dark brown to black crystals in nepheline syenite and related rocks that crystallized from highly evolved magmas. This example shows rich vuonnemite upon a massive ussingite matrix.
