The Khaidarkan deposit in Kyrgyzstan is a major mercury antimony mining locality that has been worked since the early 20th century, with large scale development during the Soviet period. The deposit consists of hydrothermal mineralization in sedimentary and volcanic rocks and became one of the most important mercury sources in the region. In addition to ore minerals, the locality is well known among collectors for rare secondary species formed in the oxidized zones. Wakabayashilite, a rare arsenic antimony mineral, occurs at Khaidarkan as small crystals and aggregates associated with other arsenic minerals.
