Mining at Mezica in northern Slovenia has a long history centered on lead and zinc extraction, with activity dating back several centuries. The Mezica Mine became one of the most important mining operations in the region, developing extensive underground workings within carbonate host rocks. In addition to its economic ores, the mine is well known among collectors for producing fine specimens of secondary minerals, including wulfenite, a lead molybdate mineral. Wulfenite from Mezica typically occurs as thin, tabular crystals, often showing bright orange to reddish colors and a high luster. These crystals formed in the oxidized zones of the deposit, where primary lead minerals altered under near surface conditions. Although mining operations have ceased, the Mezica Mine remains an important mineral locality, and its wulfenite specimens continue to be valued for their aesthetic quality and geological significance.
