The municipality of Novo Horizonte, located in the Bahia state of Brazil, is a renowned mineral locality within the Paramirim region with a history centered on artisanal and small-scale specimen mining. Geologically, the area is characterized by Proterozoic metavolcanic and metasedimentary sequences of the Espinhaço Supergroup and the Rio dos Remédios Group, featuring acid volcanic and siliciclastic rocks affected by ancient hydrothermal activity. These geological conditions facilitated the circulation of metal-bearing fluids through fractures and cavities. The region has achieved international fame among mineral collectors for producing spectacular mineral specimens consisting of brilliant golden rutile needles, frequently combined with metallic hematite plates and transparent quartz crystals.
