Over the decades, operations transitioned from primarily extracting copper and iron to focusing heavily on industrial wollastonite, while continuing active commercial operations into the 21st century. Geologically, the deposit sits within the Middle-Lower Yangtze River metallogenic belt as a classic skarn occurrence. It is hosted by Permian limestone strata intruded by quartz diorite, creating contact-metasomatic zones where iron-copper sulfides, skarn silicates, and massive wollastonite bodies formed alongside complex vug systems prized for rare mineral specimens.
