Aragonite (cave pearls)

specimen number:
1052195

location:
Bad Ems, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

description:
This specimen features aragonite in the form of cave pearls, small, rounded, concentrically layered crystals formed by the gentle accretion of mineral layers in dripping cave waters. These rare and aesthetically intriguing formations are prized by collectors for their delicate, globular shapes and natural symmetry. From Bad Ems, Germany, a historic spa town in the Rhineland, the locality is notable for its limestone caves and mineral rich waters, which over centuries produced a variety of secondary aragonite formations, including these classic cave pearls. The specimen is in great condition and comes with an antique label, as shown at the end of the video, adding provenance and historical significance. A charming and scientifically interesting piece, it represents both a classic European locality and the unique mineralogical phenomenon of cave pearl formation.
