The Teufelsgrund Mine in Germany has a history spanning over a millennium, operating since at least 953 and primarily used for mining fluorite and other metals. It closed in the 1800s, was briefly reactivated by the Nazis, and finally shut down in 1958. This current specimen shows white lustrous bladed crystal groupings of barite measuring to 2.8 cm in size across the top of a matrix mostly coated with small colorless crystals of fluorite. In great condition and very nice for this is historically important mineral locality. The specimen comes with several previous labels as shown at the end of the video. The barite is quite fluorescent under longwave ultraviolet light, while the fluorite is violet in color.
